Final Project- Clock
For the final clock project I would use the vinyl cutter, 3D printer, and the laser cutter. I would use the vinyl cutter to cut out the numbers that I would place on the clock. Then I would use the laser cutter to cut a circle out of a thin wood board. And last I would use the 3D printer to print out objects that can fit over the hands of the clock. If I could make this clock I would put it in my bathroom because my current one is broken. The hand of the clock would look like bathroom objects like a tooth brush for the minute hand, a mini tooth paste tube for the hour hand, and the second hand nothing because it's too thin and moves faster than the others.
I picked the 3D printer because I have used it before and it can make very detailed objects and that's what I need for the hands. I wanted to use the vinyl cutter for the numbers on the clock and I feel that the vinyl cutter can make clean cut number to make the clock look nice. Lastly I would use the laser to cut the wood circle for the base because it can cut a smooth circle with a clean edge.
Below are the drawing of what the clock would look like! Im a horrible drawer so I was not getting much better. But I think the clock would be a great addition to bathrooms or even a dentist office. The tooth paste tube and the tooth brush I would decorate and paint to make them look like the real thing! I would stain the wood board a dark brownish grey color and make the numbers white so they stand out!
This would be a super fun project to do in class the time management would be a little tricky, but I think I would need one class to make all the shapes in Inventor. Probably two classes to laser, cut ,and print everything because there would be other students using the machines. Lastly putting every thing together I would use two to three classes if I was productive! Over all this would be a very fun project getting to use multiple machines to make one thing and put it together. Also having the freedom to make it look how ever you want is nice add on to the final!
